Panchvati is a small 40-room home, a labour of love. The design has featured in the Idea
coffee table book as an innovative effort of artistically converting-for-cause, as the
original infrastructure here was her garment factory .
A Padmashree award winner on disability guided her to create a universally accessible
and elder friendly home. The project is as green as can be, having a complex in-built
system of rain-water harvesting, collection and utilization , a special plant to enable
grey water recycling naturally, and also the use of use of solar energy.
Neelam’s vision was to create the ideal home that could be replicated on a sustainable
basis . She continues to believe that we should have elder friendly communities that are
multigenerational.
Since her first discussion on CSR policies as an invitee at Observer’s Research
Foundation in 2012 , she has tirelessly fought for Elder Care to be included under the
ambit of CSR, which finally bore fruit with Ministry of Corporate Affairs in 2014 .
Neelam is artistic and continues to design, be it garments, artwork , systems or dreams
. What makes her tick is her passion and integrity, and eye for detail .
